My First Solo Travel Adventure

Niagara Falls, NY

Unexpected changes. Sickness. Cancellations. Two years ago, all of this led to the daunting realization that I would be alone in Niagara Falls to celebrate my birthday. As my birthday approaches once again, I pause to reflect on this life-changing event. I didn’t want to go by myself. Up until this time, traveling had always been a group adventure. I’d traveled with tour groups and I’d traveled with girlfriends. However, I’d NEVER traveled (apart from holidays to see family and work) by myself.

One word changed all of this: NON-REFUNDABLE. Once I discovered that I couldn’t get my money back without a significant penalty, I determined in my heart to make the best of it. My intentional change in attitude created space for excitement to creep in. When was the last time that I spent quality time with myself and my Creator? I began planning differently.

This trip turned out to be one of the most cathartic experiences of my life. The sheer majesty of the Falls is enough to make you acknowledge the God who is Creator of all things. I stood speechless at the natural splendor surrounding me. I talked and laughed with strangers as I rode the Maid of the Mist boat close enough to rock formations and waterfalls.

Most importantly, I was able to get clarity about some important life decisions. The opportunity to get quiet, be still, and listen while surrounded by beauty was priceless! Daily life is filled with the hustle and bustle of “making a living”. On this trip, I was able to truly LIVE! If you have an opportunity to take a solo trip in the future, I’d highly recommend Niagara Falls. Enjoy the photo gallery below and HAPPY TRAVELS!!
