Things to do in Las Vegas (that don’t involve gambling and partying)

I’ve always wanted to go to Vegas, just to see what all the hype was about. It certainly lived up to its reputation. Everything is EXCESSIVE in Vegas! I left with a headache and a need to retreat from all of the stimuli (fellow introverts can relate). But, I had a blast! Below are a few highlights from my trip.

Attractions/Must-Sees

I know this will be weird to some, but my dad was a HUGE mafia movie fanatic. I’ve watched every mob movie that exists at least three times each. So, when I saw the Mob Museum I knew I had to go. I found a great price on Groupon and spent an enjoyable 3.5 hours here. It is surprisingly very thorough and educational.

Of course, no trip to Vegas is complete without touring the various hotels and casinos. We didn’t get to them all, but I’d highly suggest you visit: The Bellagio, Caesar’s Palace, The Wynn, and The Venetian. Make sure you visit The Bellagio fountains at night to see the incredible display.

I went with a girlfriend and we found an amazing Groupon for the Spa at Harrah’s. We were so relaxed after our facials and massages that we went back to our hotel for a nap before our show that evening. Speaking of hotels, I pre-paid for a Hilton Grand Vacation timeshare tour, so we stayed at one of their properties. However, I suggest you stay as close to the center of the strip as possible if you only have a few days. We walked a LOT in Vegas, so invest in some good walking shoes.

That same day, we went back to Harrah’s for one of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen. This one is great for a girls’ trip. Although the subject matter is menopause, there was something for every female to relate to in the show. The performers were PHENOMENAL! I’m telling you, I haven’t laughed this hard in a while. Menopause: The Musical is a must see!

Food/Must Eat

So, you know how everyone rants and raves about the Vegas buffets . . . Well, I’m jumping on the bandwagon. When I say everything in Vegas is EXCESSIVE, the buffets top that list. THERE IS SO MUCH FOOD! We went to two different buffets and I really can’t pick which one I liked the best: Bacchanal Buffet at Caesars Palace or the Wynn Buffet. Both were great! Both were different. We ate at 11 am both days so we didn’t have to stop and eat lunch. Be prepared to wait in line and pay about $30-$40. But when you consider you are technically eating two meals, it’s not so bad.

I had some really great noodle soup at Pho Vietnamese inside Treasure Island Hotel and Casino. On our first evening in Vegas, we went to this great Mexican restaurant called El Dorado Cantina. The staff there were AMAZING and they gave us great tips on what to see and do in Vegas. One of the places they raved about was the Peppermill. It was classic Old Vegas with neon lights, interesting personalities, and HUGE food portions.

Something Grand

Truthfully, the GRANDEST part of my trip wasn’t even in Vegas. In my pursuit of Shalom, I am trying to cross things off my bucket list. There was a tour leaving from Vegas to the Grand Canyon and I jumped on it. It was a once in a lifetime experience. I rode in a small Cessna plane and was able to experience one of the seven wonders of the world with an unparalleled view. I highly recommend this for anyone who travels to Vegas. It was breathtaking!
