Oftentimes when we receive instructions from God it is difficult to know where to begin. With God, there is typically no blueprint and no carefully laid out 5-year strategic plan. It’s usually just one word, phrase, image, or scripture. As I’ve said before: THIS CAN BE FRUSTRATING!
However, if you understand that the sovereign God wants you to trust Her in all things than you learn to accept the instructions willingly and obey (don’t miss next week’s post on Build: Willingness and Obedience). Dependence on God to order our steps is Discipleship 101. Foundational right? Wrong! It is FORMATIONAL. It is ongoing and I feel like it keeps getting more difficult. Not difficult in the sense that God has changed, but the stakes become higher and the risk feels greater.
Just ask the disciples. Here they are finishing up an exciting time of ministry. Jesus has been teaching by the sea. People have been getting healed. More and more people are following “The Way”. Then, Jesus says, “Let’s go over to the other side”. He transitions. While they are in transit, on their way to the next destination, a storm arises.
35 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” 36 And leaving the crowd behind, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. Other boats were with him. 37 A great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him up and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” 39 He woke up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead calm. Mark 4:35-37 (NRSV)
This is the story that came to mind as I thought of the premise for my business. This is the inspiration for my logo. All of this occurred in the middle of the air as I was leaving a ministry assignment in Boston. Another piece of the puzzle revealed. Another step illuminated. Whatever you may think about this faith walk we’re on, you have to admit – It’s kind of fun watching God work!!
Are you waiting on God to reveal your next step? If so, be assured that everything you need to know will be revealed WHEN you need to know it. In the meantime, be faithful to do what God has already revealed to you and HAVE FUN doing it!
